Volunteers - Allotment Garden (Vol 05)

Title Volunteers - Allotment Garden (Vol 05)
Date listed 9th of February, 2011
Closing date 30th of March, 2012
Description We are looking for volunteers with a keen interest in gardening to help in our allotment garden in Darlington for 2 to 3 days per week.

The allotment garden creates and maintains an environment accessible to NECA clients focused on developing new and existing skills through positive engagement.

The allotment is maintained by both volunteer and supervised clients with the intention of providing access for Age UK as an activity; at agreed scheduled times when NECA are not present.

This activity enables the clients to access a community based project which is focused on therapeutic needs and provides a level of exercise determined by the individual. An embedded approach to education enables the clients to learn about a healthier option at low cost surrounding dietary needs.

As with other NECA Structured Day Care projects, the opportunity of ownership is provided by developing and increasing both self esteem and motivation.
